Australia PM Kevin Rudd delivered a lecture in Beijing University on Wednesday, reiterated his stance of opposing any boycott of the coming Beijing Olympics. Meanwhile he called on the Chinese government to settle the significant human rights problems in Tibet through dialogue. “Some asked to boycott the Beijing Olympic Game due to what has happened in Tibet recently, but just as what I have declared in London on Sunday, I do not agree with such kind of doing.” Mr. Rudd reiterated during the lecture to the Beijing University students.
“It would to be a great opportunity for China to interact with the world directly.”
“Just like most other countries, Australia recognizes China’s Sovereignty over Tibet, but we also believe that it is necessary to envisage the significant human rights problems existed in Tibet.”
Mr. Rudd added that he hope all the parties could avoid the violence and settle the problems through dialogue.
“We hope there are Joys and happiness and peace in 2008, and no violence happens.”
